After twelve weeks that seemed to pass in a dizzying speed the English class taking place on Thursday afternoon has finally finished. The course during which I assisted Passion老師 consisted of government officers who were, because of their profession, more or less compelled to attend this class in order to improve their English. But after the first few lessons during which a slightly shy and uncertain atmosphere was tangible, the students grew more confident and less stressed and began obviously to enjoy the classes. Steadily they got used to me and my presentations and showed their eagerness to learn in venturing to ask questions regarding the topics I presented. Those were mainly cultural or social issues concerning Germany, since I, as a native, could relate first-hand information. It pleased me exceedingly to see their sincere interest in my country and its costumes, when I told them about the social insurance system, the daily life of single mothers, folks festivals like the October festival or movies and of course food in Germany. In exchange for that I also learnt a lot about the Taiwanese social system, but also about traditional Chinese or Taiwanese festivals, like the Moon or the Dragonboat festival or the customs preceding a wedding. Not to mention all the different popular snacks and dishes which are traditional in Taiwan! In the process of this course I could remark some great change happen to several students and I got the impression they really made a good deal of progress in their understanding and speaking abilities in the English language. But what I could notice with all the students was that they really made an effort in learning and everyone was diligently taking notes whenever Passion pointed out some special vocabulary either me or she used during the class.
