On the 25th of September, a Sunday note well, I got up at 5:30 p.m. Why should I do such an insane thing? Well that is a very good question, but there is a reasonable answer to it: I participated in the activity of the Mountain Climbing Club of the Community University, which went for a trip that day, to go hiking in a river. If there is still some confusion left as to my repeated assertion to go walking or hiking IN a river, let me disperse that: We really hiked in the water, in the riverbed of a small current that flows in the lush landscape of a mountainous forest, just two hours with the bus from Tainan. To clearly state that from the beginning: Yes, it is a very wet business. You yourself, including all your clothes get soaked through with water! That is not because the river is so deep or rapid, but because we didn’t only hike but we also stopped very often to jump in one of the many pools that are naturally formed and sourced by the numerous little waterfalls that interrupt the smooth flowing of the water. Our equipment guaranteered us high safety, for we had not only special shoes in order to not slip in the water but everyone also wore a helmet and a swimming west, so nobody was in danger of drowning…^^ Still, sometimes it was even adventurous when we had to climb up those waterfalls to be able to move forward. But we had always experts at hand, for not only our very experienced teacher and group leader but also four assistants, who were already more versed in climbing and in hiking, supported us and prepared the fixture to help us master those situations. In addition to that, the teacher always understood to motivate and amuse the group with his good and peppy spirits, although he didn’t really have to push us, for we had all a lot of fun and it was not very exhausting. So we could really enjoy the water and the beautiful and amazing landscape, with the great forest surrounding us with its green shelter and the sometimes tiny waterfalls trickling or pouring down everywhere, it had a feeling of paradise. What really left a deep and stunning impression on me, was the sight of a group of beautiful blue butterflies that didn’t look alike any I had seen before. Those were not only much bigger than the ones I know from Germany, but their shape and shimmering colour reminded me of the fairies I knew and loved from the stories told in my childhood. After we had come back to our bus we could get rid of our wet clothing and change into dry ones before we set of back to Tainan. After a short break on the way to take a snack together we arrived in the city shortly after six o’clock. In total I had a really good and joyous day and I would strongly recommend it to anybody who has got the chance to do it! The landscape is breathtaking and if you like water, it will feel like paradise! link to https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-pbm ... SZg/s640/1321508228_0.jpg
